Urban League Needs Your Old Paint

Happy Factory Las Vegas has formed a great partnership with the Las Vegas - Clark County Urban League! The Seniors assemble and finish Happy Factory toys and then give them to various children in programs supported by the LV CC Urban league.

Ron Evans, Senior Home Repair Project Coordinator, has asked me to put the word out to help paint 10 senior citizen homes in Las Vegas! DON'T STOP READING NOW! NO WORK IS INVOLVED! :-)

What he needs is paint! Your paint! Those extra cans of paint you have had in your garage. Half full, full, whatever! Gloss, semi-gloss, flat, whatever! If enough of a color, they use it for trim. Otherwise they mix it up and paint the house.

I have no idea what the scope of this will be, but I do not think they can get too much paint.

WHAT IS WORLD VISION’S 30 HOUR FAMINE?
• It’s a worldwide hunger awareness program to help feed the world’s poorest children.
• Our youth group goes without food for 30 hours to get a taste of true hunger.
• Through family, friends and group fundraisers we raise money to save kids’ lives. ($30 will help feed and care for a child for an entire month!)
• The experience teaches us about Christ’s compassion, and about how we can help change the world.

IS WORLD HUNGER STILL A BIG ISSUE?
• Every day 26,000 children die because of hunger, disease, and poverty.
• Of those, 14,000 die as a result of malnutrition.
• Around the world, more than 850 million people are hungry – including over 300 million children

WHY DO THE FAMINE?
• We want to feel the power of Christ’s compassion.
• It brings our youth group closer together, and in a closer relationship with Christ.
• If we don’t step up, who will?

HOW YOU CAN HELP
• Pray for our group members as we do the 30 Hour Famine.
• Sponsor a Famine participant (or two or three!) as they do the Famine.
• Support our group fundraisers (Feb. 15th – Donations accepted after all three services. Feb. 22nd – Bake Sale)
• Volunteer to help at our Famine event.

Bake Day-Supports Famine Effort

Feb. 21st – Meet at the church kitchen from 9:30 AM to Noon on Saturday morning. Jessica will bring basic ingredients such as flour, sugar, butter, oil and eggs. Please bring your favorite baking recipe (even if it’s in a box) and any additional ingredients needed. If you have extra baking pans at home or even festive plates for presentation, feel free to bring those as well!
